Situated on the granites and granitic gneisses of the Yilgarn Block, the present topographic form of the Reserves is the result of extensive erosion of the granites coupled with later pedogenic development of laterite. The laterite has resisted erosion, leaving low rounded hills standing above lowlands, some of which carry seasonal watercourses.
Trish's Grandparents were farmers in the central wheatbelt, roughly 201km's east of Perth Western Australia, in a tiny town called Trayning. They lived 20kms south of Trayning in Kodj Kodjin (aka South Trayning). Kodj Kodjin is the aboriginal name for water. Kodj Kodjin Reserve located 20km due N of Kellerberrin. It has an area of 204 ha. Named after Kodj Kodjin Well. The Reserve was for 'Natives' and vested in the Minister for Lands until 12 November 1954 when it was declared a C-class Flora Reserve and put under the control of the Kellerberrin Shire. The farm was 5500acres consisting of wheat sheep and barley. The farm itself was called "Coothara" which means "we too, together". Trish has very found memories of the farm and idolised her grandparents John and Patricia Riley. Trish recalls asking her grandmother if she could name her place after the farm to try and carry on somewhat of a legacy. Permission was granted and several years later, Coothara Farm was named. Trish has many fond memories of the farm, mostly the all consisted of the animals, the farm shed, shearing time and crop time. But also many family gatherings spent on the back lawn underneathe the beautiful jacaranda tree. There has been some jacaranda trees planted at Coothara Farm, hopefully one day they will be in full bloom and all their glory just like the one back home.
The logo that was designed for Coothara Farm has sprigs of jacaranda in it to attach itself to the farm memories. but it also has the sprigs of wheat as well which Trish spent many hours sitting on her grandfathers lap in the seeder or headers plowing the fields.
